A protest by traders over the demolition of the popular Eke-Ukwu market in the Imo State capital turned bloody yesterday, leaving a 10-year-old boy dead.
Somtochukwu Igboanusi was shot dead by soldiers invited by the state government to keep the traders in check during the market demolition.
Igboanusi’s killing ended up fuelling the tension as Owerri natives who are fiercely opposed to the demolition launched their own protest.
Residents claimed two other persons were killed during the protest.

The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has commended the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, for her effort to grooming Nigerian youths into successful entrepreneurs through her NACCIMA Youth initiative.

The Deputy Governor made the commendation  on Tuesday during the opening ceremony Entrepreneurship Seminar organised by NACCIMA Youth Group for Imo State Youths and Owerri Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture stakeholders in Owerri, Imo State.

Four occupants of a two-storey building on Fire Service/Mbaise Road, in Owerri, the Imo State capital died after the building collapsed in the early hours of yesterday. Five other occupants of the building, which is opposite the Owerri Area Police Command headquarters, were rescued but they sustained various degrees of injuries.
The coordinator of Owerri Operations, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Evans Ugoh, who confirmed the casualties to newsmen said rescue operation was ongoing.

The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has identified unity and peace as requisite conditions for progress in any given community, adding that a peaceful environment brings a purposeful destiny and leadership.

Madumere made the statement when the leadership of Eziome Progressive Union, Mbieri, Mbaitoili LGA paid him a courtesy visit in his country home Achi Mbieri last weekend.

He advised the people to work in harmony as a team to actualize their dreams, pointing out that there is strength in unity.


The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has charged  Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC  to brace up to meet up with the ever increasing need for her goods and services by providing additional facilities in Imo State.
 
Prince Madumere made the suggestion yesterday in his office when a delegation of NNPC Retail Limited led by its Managing Director, Engr Adetunji Adeyemi paid him a courtesy visit in the Government House, Owerri, Imo State.
