Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has expressed his deep disappointment with the outcome of the Edo State governorship election held on September 21, 2024. Fintiri condemned the exercise, calling it a disgrace to Nigeria’s democracy and warning that it threatens to undermine the country’s electoral integrity.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, Fintiri said, “I weep for Nigeria’s democracy after witnessing the shameful Edo gubernatorial poll. The desperation exhibited by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure victory, even if it meant compromising democratic norms, is a disgrace.”

Fintiri accused the APC of voter intimidation, vote-buying, and using security forces to disrupt the electoral process. He also called out the party’s national chairman, who he claimed flew into Edo on election day in defiance of movement restrictions, while APC governors allegedly used armoured vehicles to coerce voters.

“The real brigandage is the blatant disregard for the rule of law and democratic principles,” he said, adding that results from INEC’s IREV portal showed inconsistencies, including more votes than accredited voters. Fintiri urged Nigerians to demand accountability from INEC and the APC, asserting that the credibility of future elections is at stake.

Governor Fintiri’s statement has resonated with many Nigerians, who are increasingly vocal about their concerns over the fairness of the election.
