Seplat Energy Plc, in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), has successfully concluded the first edition of the Seplat PEARLs Quiz competition in Imo State. This initiative, aimed at promoting academic excellence and intellectual growth, saw participation from 71 secondary schools across the state.
The grand finale, held on November 15, 2024, in Owerri, witnessed Concorde Model Secondary School clinching the top position with 54 points, narrowly surpassing Mountain Crest Secondary School, which scored 51 points. Nnuola International Secondary School secured third place with 60 points, defeating Community Secondary School, Mbieri, which finished with 42 points.
The winning schools received substantial rewards:
Concorde Model Secondary School: ₦5 million for a school project; each of the three representatives received ₦100,000.
Mountain Crest Secondary School: ₦3 million for a school project; each representative received ₦75,000.
Nnuola International Secondary School: ₦1 million for a school project; each representative received ₦50,000.
Emmanuel Otokhine, Base Manager of Eastern Asset at Seplat Energy, emphasized the company’s commitment to education, stating, “The PEARLs Quiz programme is more than a competition; it is a beacon of hope and opportunity. At Seplat Energy, we firmly believe that investing in education is investing in the future of our nation.”
The event attracted key stakeholders, including government officials, educators, and representatives from Seplat Energy and NNPC. Notably, eight out of the twelve finalists were girls, highlighting the state’s efforts to promote girl-child education.
This competition underscores Seplat Energy’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and youth empowerment in its host communities, setting a benchmark for corporate social responsibility in Nigeria.
