The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, Kelvin Izekor, for allegedly killing his wife, Success Izekor, in a shocking case of domestic violence in Benin City.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday, February 22, 2025, left residents of Upper Mission Extension in disbelief, as the couple was known to be newly married. A viral video circulating online shows police officers and residents recovering the victim’s lifeless body, which had deep machete wounds on the head.

A witness, speaking anonymously, expressed shock:
“I can’t believe what I saw. Imagine being killed by your husband. They were a new couple. Nobody expected this.”

According to Edo State Police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, officers responded to reports at 10 pm on Saturday and arrived to find the suspect surrounded by an angry mob, ready to lynch him. It took serious effort by the police to pacify the enraged crowd and take Kelvin into custody.

“The lifeless body of the victim was found in a pool of blood with deep machete cuts to the head. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead,” Yamu stated.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, has condemned the rising cases of spousal violence, assuring that a diligent investigation is underway and that justice will be served.

This case has sparked outrage, with activists calling for stricter measures against domestic violence and stronger interventions to protect women trapped in abusive marriages.
