In a bid to harmonized the overall activities of the media in Imo State, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barr. Emeka Felix Ebiliekwe has met with the leaders of the New Media community in the state.
The courtesy visit which took place on Thursday, September 24, 2019, at the Conference Room of Ministry of Information and Orientation, Imo State Secretariat, Owerri, had the Special Assistant on New Media to Imo State Governor, Hon. Aic Akwarandu leading the team.
Hon. Akwarandu said the essence of the courtesy visit was to harmonize the activities of the media in the state especially where it concerns the promotion of the activities of the Rebuild Imo government.
He commended Barr. Ebiliekwe on how he has been running the ministry, adding that only those at the corridors of the media will understand what it takes to make it work in a state like Imo. He then proposed that every ministry in the state should have a New Media Staff, who will be relaying their activities to the New Media department, so that the general public and Imolites will know what is going on in the state.
With capacity building also in focus, Hon. Akwarandu also called on the Ministry of Information and Orientation to always partner with the Imo New Media to ensure individuals and groups, get the best trainings to enable operate in the best ways.
He then informed the Commissioner of the maiden edition of the Imo State New Media Summit, which will be taking place before the end of the year.
Responding, Barr. Ebiliekwe thanked the group for calling on him, adding that the business of government belongs to everyone and at such one man cannot do it on his own.
He urged the group not to relent in publicizing the policies of the government, because it is important that Imolites are made aware of what Gov. Emeka Ihedioha is doing in all sectors of government. He assured the group of the support of his ministry in their programmes, adding that; “if this government succeeds, it is for all of us, but if it fails, people who know we are part of it, will look at all of us as failures”
Barr. Ebiliekwe also assured the group of his accessibility and availability, saying they can reach him anytime to give or receive information as they are all partners in progress.
The Imo New Media has both government groups and other new media associations in the state considered as partners in progress with the government. They include the Imo New Media Influencers Association, represented by Comr. Kelvin Nwaka (President), Comr. Irobi Darlington (Vice President) and Nokii Ebikam (Bot Chairmain).
Other associations are the Ihedioha New Media Center, led by Comr. Ebube Mba; Government House New Media and Imo State Bloggers Association led by Chinedu Hardy Nwadike.
Present at the event are Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Chikodi Emenalo; Mr. Pius Iwuoha and the Ministry’s head of ICT Mrs. Violet Iwe.
