The city of Atlanta Georgia, is gearing up for a classic first-of-its-kind event with Award-Winning Actor Isaiah Washington in an exclusive evening of discussions and entertainment.
An Evening with Isaiah Washington scheduled to take place on August 31, 2013 starting at 6PM EST is an exclusive multi-cultural event of up-close and personal discussions on culture, life, success and lessons learned. This event (also its official launching) is powered and delivered by Atlanta based DUNIA Magazine (www.duniamagazine.com). The theme of the event “Bridging the Gap between Africans & African Americans” is an attempt to have an open and honest discussion on how, and why we must come together to strengthen our lineage and foster cultural understanding, to heal existing divisions and build on a new foundation of trust and brotherhood.
In 2007, Isaiah Washington through the African Ancestry DNA program traced his roots back to the Mende and Temne people of Sierra Leone on his maternal side. He has since 2010 been a citizen of Sierra Leone, making him the first person ever to be awarded citizenship of an African country based solely on DNA. Mr Washington funded the construction of the Chief Foday Golia Memorial School in Njala Kendema, Sierra Leone, which in 2007 opened its doors to the first 170 students. This primary school now has approximately 300 students, and only five full time-teachers. Hence there is an urgent need to employ and provide salaries for more teachers and to expand the school’s infrastructure. This event is also an attempt to raise funds to help in the school expansion projects.
DUNIA Magazine believes that “by investing in education, we can all help eradicate poverty in African communities and help mold the next generation of leaders”. In working with Isaiah Washington’s The Gondobay Manga Foundation (www.gondobaymangafoundation.org) this can be achieved.
Isaiah Washington will also talk about his upcoming TV series The 100 that will be airing midseason on The CW. In the series, he plays Chancellor Jaha, the leader of the last surviving members of the human race, nearly 100 years after a nuclear holocaust.
Entertaining guests that evening will be: Atlanta spoken word artist Soul Scribe, and poet Alphonso “A’Qen-Aten” Jackson with breathe taking poetry; performer Abizzy, Franco Records Star from Sierra Leone; Dj Skeeper, the keyboard magician from Cameroon; Vocalist Anita Canada, USA; and Atlanta’s Dj Fly. Press coverage by Freshwave Network, Millennium Broadcasting Corporation, amongst others. This event is powered by Dunia Magazine with Franco Records, Prince Noel Production, LISS LIFE, Majestic Touch, Inc, Tatou Vibes as partners.
The event venue is at: Intrigue Event Center, 95 Crestridge Dr, Suwanee, 30024. You can get tickets from http://www.duniamagazine.com
