Ace show promoter Buchi George has come out to say that he is still on top of the entertainment business in Owerri. Months after his ‘Imo Fashion Week’ show in Owerri, he has set his eyes on a bigger stage which include ‘Miss Eastern Nigeria Beauty Pageant’, ‘Imo Carnival 2012’ and ‘Imo Award’
Mr George believes that with these events coming up soon, he will be enlarging his coast in show biz, especially on the area of fashion, arts and culture.
According to him, Enugu State has been chosen for the Miss Eastern Nigeria Pageant which is coming up by December because he believes entertainment sells faster there than in Imo State. he also believes that Enugu State has the history as well as what it takes in the present to host such event.
For Imo Award, he said “It is a programme for next year, where 37 Imolites will be honoured. One person from each of the 27 local governments of the state, while the other 10 will be go to Imolites from all works of life who have distinguished themselves in what they do. As well as those who have affected the lives of other positively in the state”
He blamed the ‘dirty competition’ among heads of entertainment agencies owed by government in state as the major cause of the poor growth in the industry, stating that most of the heads of these agencies do not have what it takes to be in the position they occupy.
“Being a comedian or any kind of entertainer does not make one a good planner. Planning is a talent of its own and you can’t expect someone on a political appointment to deliver the entertainment industry of the state. They should get their own concepts, instead of copying and fighting to do whatever someone else is doing”
Mr. George however believes Imo State entertainment will still grow to compete with other neighboring states with the kind of programme he has, stating that he is also open to work with anyone who shares the same vision with him.
