XcelDrama and Kin-Joe make a hip-hop/Rnb duo Flakes taking off from Lagos and hoping to reach other parts of the county and beyond.
With their latest single wokiriwo playing on major TV stations in the country and beyond, the duo believe they have taken that very right step into the industry of Nigeria.
CHINEDU HARDY NWADIKE of O’town Gist Entertainment (www.otowngist.com) spoke with the duo who were recently in Owerri to perform in the De Dukes Campus tour at Imo State University, and the interview shares the origin and vision of the duo in music industry.
Excerpts:
Introduction
XcelDrama, a student of Federal University of Technology Owerri and a native of Uruala in Ideator North Local Government of Imo State, while Kin Joe is a student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka and a native of Nnewi in Anambra State.
Your meeting
We have been friends way back, we meet in the studio and also like each other. One day we decided to come together to do something no one has ever done and that was how Flakes was born. Since then, we have been pushing it.
Journey so far
So far it has been good for us, were done good songs with some big names in the industry.
When we came out with the track ‘Diamond Dream’ it went places, giving us the initial exposure we needed.
I can rate Flakes 50% and we are on course to 100% especially with the video of ‘Wokiriwo’ playing around the country and beyond.
The Fame and being students
We feel so blessed although it hasn’t been easy combining both, but the recognition is something that will always thrill us. Being a musician in this part of the world is big time because it is not easy.
What next?
Like every artiste would do, we are promoting our song. We are not rushing into any new thing, but to see that ‘Wokiriwo’ gets to every lover of music in this country and beyond.
The album
Our album won’t be dropping anytime soon. We just want to concentrate on our promo for now.
Times of quarrels
For sure, human beings will always quarrel, but it takes lots of maturity to get back into the good times. We don’t really take time to resolve our issues, maybe it is because we are more than partners, we are best friends too.
Balancing ideas
In Flakes, we work together, and we always know how to find that mid point which will balance things for us. When we are writing a song or bringing ideas that will help our music, we always have a way to balance it. That’s the Flake’s way of doing things
