Uwajumogu must resign, PDP insists

For again opening his mouth too wide in the wake of receipt of some monetary inducements from a former governor of the state Imo Youth Network has advised PDP publicity Secretary Chief Blyden Amajirionwu to shut up.
Imo youth Network which reacted to a publication in the Imo Trumpeta Newspaper of Tuesday 6, November 2012 in a statement issued in Owerri and signed by its chairman Amaefida Amadi and Assistant secretary Ogechi Ibe said it is utterly appalled that a party publicity Secretary could unilaterally take the decision to issue public statement using his party’s letter headed paper without allowing the state executive council or state working committee to take a collective decision. According to the body Amajirionwu’s consistent use of the first person pronoun “I” in his purported PDP press statement gives him away as a power hungry official who can’t different his private business from party affairs adding that such tendencies like it earlier pointed out contributed to the colossal crash of his party in the last election.

It said it is well aware that recent attack directed at the Speaker by the PDP spokesman is a pay back overture to demonstrate the loyalty he pledged few days ago to Chief Ikedi Ohakim by prostrating flat on the ground to receive financial lifeline adding that it is imperative to remind him that soon the “dashed” money would finish like others before it. Imo youth Network insisted that it stands by its previous statement that those who live in glass house should not throw stones as according to it PDP leadership at the state level has demonstrated alarming propensity to dishonesty and deceit saying the dishonorable role of the party leaders led to the failure of its candidate ex Gov. Ikedi Ohakim.
“Against this backdrop the Network said it would stand solidly behind speaker Uwajumogu come rain come shine especially as the Imo electorate is comfortable with the way and manner he is piloting the affairs of the legislature.
Insisting that Ndi Imo are sick and tired of the rabble rousing of men like Blyden Amajirionwu the body maintained that Imolites are hungry for good governance and would give anything to have it adding that so far speaker Uwajumogu has demonstrated courage focus and partnership needed to move the state forward.  On the issue of educational qualification IYN challenged the PDP spokesman to publish just his Secondary Scholl Certificates before he can qualify to cast stone on speaker Uwajumogu qualification. The body added that by any standard the speaker is qualified to preside the affairs of the house in so far as he has crossed the constitutional baseline of school certificate adding that even those castigating the speaker have lower academic qualifications that make them moral misfits as far as castigating Hon. Uwajumogu is concerned. The youth body said it is a registered youth body with the youth and sports Ministry since 2008 maintaining that it has played major roles in the democratization of the state saying Amajirionwu’s allegation that it does not exist a figment of his imagination is indicative of his resounding academic laxity which can’t even allow him to stake a little energy to investigate whether it is registered or not before gaffing.
Continuing IYN advised Amajirionwu to go to court and prove his case against the Speaker. As it noted that speakers are not removed on pages of newspapers adding that patriotic Imolites would never buy into PDP’s sinister agenda to get at Gov. Rochas Okorocha through the Speaker. On Amajirionwu’s charge that speaker Uwajumogu is using the body to fight him the statement said IYN does not need to visit the Speaker or be used by it before it can contribute to the democratic process of the state pointing out that the cash and carry mentality which holds sway in PDP has beclouded Amajirionwu’s sense of duty and patriotism to the extent that everything he does must be monetized.
In conclusion the body praised Hon. Uwajumogu for maintaining dignified silence in the midst of the rantings of political liliputes who have no electoral value and therefore cannot seek elective positions not to talk of being elected the speaker of the state legislature.
Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State chapter has reiterated its call on the speaker of the state legislature, Chief Benjamin Uwajumogu to resign for lying over his defection.
The party maintained that Chief Uwajumogu also does not have the requisite qualification to preside over the house.
The party’s stand is contained in a statement signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Chief Blyden Amajirionwu.
Chief Amajirionwu recalled that on June 6, 2011 at the floor of Assembly, Chief Uwajumogu publicly defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
He regretted that Chief Uwajumogu has now denied defecting to the APGA on realizing that the PDP was making arrangement to have the Ihitte/Uboma Constituency seat vacant. The speaker represents the Ihitte/Uboma Constituency at the legislature.
The PDP accused the speaker of double-speak which it said is a most dishonourable thing to do especially by a person occupying such a sensitive position. Chief Amajirionwu said having lied to Imo people, Chief Uwajumogu must resign even as he alleged that the speaker’s academic background does not commend him to the exalted office he is occupying. According to him, Chief Uwajumogu holds a GCE Ordinary level and a doubtful diploma in Franaise Paris and therefore cannot occupy the position of speaker in a state with a surfeit of graduates.
Contacted, the speaker’s media aide, Samuelson Ikenna Iwuoha promised to respond to the issues but never did so as at press time.
