Rag Day, as it is fondly called is cherished in our tertiary institutions of learning. It is a day set aside by the social planners and organizers of institutions, for students to dress in rags, roaming the streets for the purpose of making money for charity.
Rag day is an interesting and memorable event in the life of every Nigeria University Student.
On the 13th of February, the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, had her students on rag around the streets of Owerri and beyond.
Some of the ridiculous attires seen include males dressing up as ladies putting on bras with oranges to fill them on mismatching shoes. The ladies were seen wearing their dresses inside out, mismatching colours etc.
Speaking to one of the students, Hon. Edward, a political science students, he said “Alvan is having their annual Rag day/yearly ritual and everyone seen to be happy as a lots of students are trying to look crazy.
Rag day is set aside for new intakes, but we happen to see 200L, 300L and some final year students involved in it. Some of these students carried it over”.
The school held her Rag day on the 13th of February 2013 because of its matriculation coming up on the 15th of February 2013.
It was indeed an interesting and memorable event.
