The truck with Registration number: Akwa Ibom AA 702 KTA was said to be on its way to Ovom waterside to carry sand when it lost control and rammed into the fence of Glorious International Academy located on 42 Opobo road, Aba where the pupils were having their morning devotion in a classroom.
Eyewitnesses said the pupils have concluded their examinations and returned to the school to have their end of the year party not knowing that death was lurking.
When our correspondent visited the school, men of the Nigeria Police and Federal Road Safety Corps were seen inspecting the scene of the accident while sympathizers clustered in groups lamenting the development. Beside blood which covered the floor of the classroom, broken desks, biscuits, plates which our correspondent gathered, were to be used for the end of the year party.
Some parents and relations wept uncontrollably throwing themselves on the ground while others were making inquiries if their wards were among those dead or injured.
The school proprietor or any of his teachers were not available for comments as at the time of this filing this report but a resident of the area said they were away to the hospital to see what could be done to save the lives of the surviving children.
Nigeria Newspoint reports that the Opobo road has become a death trap as no week passes without accidents. Three days ago, 3 women died at the popular Umuogele junction when a truck rammed into their tricycle on the way to a local market in the area.
