The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Imo State has commissioned a mobile clinic that will be run in a truck.
The mobile clinic which is named ‘Owelle Clinic’ after the executive governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha was commissioned by the Deputy Governor of the state, His Excellency, Prince Eze Madumere at the Deputy Governor’s lodge in Owerri on Monday, March 31, 2014.
Speaking at the event, the deputy governor hailed the efforts of the governor to see that primary health care gets to the doorstep of every Imolite and also ensuring that the people are enjoying the true dividends of democracy.
He also added that with the mobile clinic which has world class equipment in it, lives will be saved; Imolites will be happy and live longer.
Prince Madumere also commended the efforts of Imo State MDGs, saying that the entire nation is using Imo MDGs as role models for the actualization of the Millennium Development Goals in the country.
He however urged the health ministry, to make good use of the clinic, also calling on the people of Imo State to support the present administration.
Receiving the vehicle, the state Commissioner for health, Dr. Edward Ihejirika said the mobile clinic will boost the state government’s Health at Your Doorstep proggramme, ensuring that quality healthcare gets to the grassroots.
He assured the state government and Imolites that the clinic will be deployed to field immediately and used adequately to save lives in the state.
The SSA to Imo State governor on MDGs, Mrs Mma Nzeribe-Michaels, in her speech said MDGs is following the footsteps of the present administration to deliver when they make promises.
“The mobile clinic will be deployed into the rural areas and in a weekly basis, it will be in a different local government, providing healthcare to the rural dwellers, the women in particular as well as immunization for the children. This will be our own step towards actualizing Health at Your Doorstep instituted by governor Owelle Rochas Okorochas” Mrs Nzeribe-Michaels said.
Also at the event were the SSA to gorvenor on Public Health, Mrs Amaka Onwumere and the Planning/Desk Officer of Imo MDGs, Mrs Chiaka Mbajunwa.
The purchase and equipping of the mobile clinic was funded by the Debt Relief Gains of the Millenium Development Goals and Imo State Government via counterpart funding.
