Gospel singer, Pastor Joseph Adesoji has revealed that Nigeria gospel artistes work harder than their counterparts in other countries of the world, citing lack of appreciation as the major challenge artistes are facing in the country.
Pastor Adesoji who spoke to www.otowngist.com at Mavis Suites, Owerri during the Album Presentation Concert of fellow gospel singer, Mr Kyze recalled that his recent experience in South Africa showed him that gospel artistes in Nigeria, especial Imo State are working very hard.
“The guys here are really working hard, although there is little or no exposure and appreciation. My nine days in South Africa opened my eyes on that. We just need encouragement from the government, churches and individuals; with that, the gospel guys will soon move up because you can’t be singing in an empty stomach. If the environment can encourage gospel music, it will also thrive”
He also agreed that gospel artistes in Imo State are not united in any association, stating that he may work on that to see if those at the mainstream of the industry can provide succor for the upcoming ones.
“Everybody is working independently, but some of us who are promoted are connected to each other. Maybe we just need to come out and have something more official; have an association because the younger ones are really yearning for it.
We still support the younger ones by attending their events and featuring in their recordings, but we’ll give that a serious attention; to have a unifying body where the gospel musicians in Imo State can come together” He added.
Pastor Adesoji also revealed that his next project will be mind-blowing and urged every listener of good gospel music to get hold of his album, which is doing well in the market.
He also hailed Mr. Kyze for putting up such a wonderful event, saying that the dimension Mr. Kyze has taken in his music will bring in the much-needed diversity in gospel music.
