Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, over the weekend, accused leaders of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), in the state of looting the state’s treasury for 12 years.
The Governor, who spoke while inaugurating the State Executive Committee, (SEC) members of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and their counterparts at the 27 local government councils at the International Convention Centre, Owerri stated that it would be absurd for anybody to compare his three year-old administration with the 12 years PDP spent managing the economy of the state.
According to him, “The PDP has only achieved putting money in their pockets, and nothing more. The PDP leaders in the state had fed on the common purse of the state”.
The governor said the Imo PDP had left nothing behind in the Government House, Owerri, for the 12 years they occupied it as to contemplate returning to power in 2015 while he called on the PDP to allow the APC govern the state for 12 years, he said such was necessary “so that Imo people can give their verdict”.
He expressed concern that if the PDP government at both the federal and state levels had done well, the APC would not have come on board, stressing that the APC emerged as a result of the failure of the PDP to move the country, and the state in particular, forward.
“They said PDP is Igbo party. How is it an Igbo party? Is the national chairman or National Secretary or the president or the vice president or the senate president or the Speaker of the House of Representatives an Igbo? The answer is “No” he maintained.
Okorocha, however, charged the APC leaders and members to be united, adding that the victory of the party depends largely on how united the members are.
He advised the new State EXCO to carry everybody along, warning that, henceforth, holding the meetings of the party at the Government House had ceased, and that every meeting would now be held at the part’s state secretariat, while the LGAs and wards maintain a functional office where party register must e kept for prospective members and decampees.
