Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has described the newly sworn-in National Youths Service Corps members as critical partner in the drive for national growth and development.
In his statement through his deputy, Prince Eze Madumere earlier today at Imo State Orientation Camp, Umudi, Nkwerre, Imo State, Governor Okorocha while congratulating the Corps members for fulfilling their academic pursuit to have qualified for noble NYSC deployment, which he says will open a new gateway to a successful life and future.
He reminded the corps members the essence of the programme among other things is for them to interact with one another, make new friends and drop some of the prejudices held ignorantly about others from different ethnic groups.
The number two citizen of Imo State impressed on the corps members to learn the tradition and culture of The good people of Imo State no matter the community posted. He assured them of the hospitality of the people, which he said is unequaled. He encouraged the corps members to take time to appreciate the transformation in Imo State and pay visit to the tourist destinations in the State.
He also called on the Corps members to remain patriotic and committed to the National call especially as they will be participating in the 2015 elections. He reminded them the Nation holds them in high esteem in that respect due to the huge success recorded by the predecessors in all previous elections organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission. He expressed belief in their ability and capacity to live up to expectation when the time comes for them to volunteer their service in such regard.
Prince Madumere charged the corps members to learn skills so as to be entrepreneurs rather than job seekers with a view to solving unemployment mantra and poverty at the end of their service year.
The high point of occasion of the official opening and swearing-in ceremony of the orientation course for corps members batch “B” deployed to the State is Governor Okorocha’s donation of N11.3 million to the Service to argument in the feeding of the corps members through his deputy, Prince Eze Madumere.
Prince Madumere revealed that the new orientation camp will be ready in n distant time as the government is working tirelessly yo deliver on the project so as to have a comfortable orientation camp with requisite facilities.
Prince Madumere on behalf of the Governor however formally declared open the 2014 “Batch” Orientation Course for members deployed to Imo State.
Meanwhile, the Imo State State Coordinator of National Youths Service Corps , Mr. Akhanemhe Cyril thanked Governor Okorocha for his support and assistance to the scheme especially the construction of the new Orientation Camp that is ongoing.
