It was at Amuzi and Odenkume Communities in Obowo LGA last Saturday September 6, 2014 that a middle aged man was arrested and dragged along the road with palm fronts tied round his neck to a grave side, for confessing to being responsible for the accident that claimed the life of his kinsman, Comrade Isidore Ogokeh.
The deceased, Isidore Ogokeh is an Abuja based activist and member Oganihu Ndi Igbo Igboville, Planning Committee for a December retreat expected to take place in Owerri.
Recently he returned to his native Odenkume Obowo home where he completed a choice bungalow and took a wife from among his kinsmen at Amuzi Obowo. Unknown to him, one of his kinsmen, who shares a boundary at the site of the ultra modern newly completed bungalow, has been nursing grudges and bitterness against his prospects and successes. Late Isidore had come home boasting of his exploits in his chosen career and the fact that he is going to mobilize the whole of Obowo to support a USA based governorship aspirant of the United Progressive Party (UPP) to the envy of his middle aged kinsman (names with held). After presenting his newly engaged wife procured from a prominent family in Amuzi Obowo, he decided to return to Abuja to source for more funds with which to solemnize the holy matrimony scheduled for December this year. On the way, he had a ghastly motor-accident and died moments later.
While the aged mother and sibling were still ruminating over what ill fate that befell them, their attention was drawn to the boastings and claims of their kinsman with whom they had a land dispute and skirmishes previously that he was responsible for the deadly motor accident.
And so it was that at the burial of late Isidore Ogokeh, the youths arrested the man and forced him to jump across the casket containing the remains of the activist turned politician.
They were at the verge of lynching the poor rustic man before some concerned villagers intervened and saved the day for both the man and the community.
Among those who sued for restraint was the Imo State Chairman of Igboville/Oganihu Ndi Igbo, Barr. Emenalo and the President-General of the Socio-cultural organization who led no less than 50 members from Abuja to attend the burial ceremony at Odenkume Obowo.
Late Isidore Ogoke was buried after a funeral mass at the local Catholic Church attended by members of his Nwanneakolam age grade Obowo.
