Reminiscence of the 2003 battle to unseat Governor Achike Udenwa which cost several lives, the battle for the soul of Imo APGA has so far taken a dramatic dimension having turned bloody.
Just as the likes of Anthony Onyearugbulam, Ogbonnaya Uche, Theodore Agwatu were felled by the assassin’s bullets, a road accident has taken its toll on a cream of APGA State Executive Committee Members who were travelling from Abuja to Owerri.
At about 3.P.M on Thursday, October 30, 2014, the Hummer bus conveying some APGA State Executives, majority of who are committed supporters of Mr. Okey Eze, had a ghastly road accident between Delta and Edo state boundary at Ubiaja leading to several loss of lives of Imo citizens.
Among those confirmed dead already are Obinna Ibe and Pharm. Uche Okeke who sat on the same seat. The Imo APGA Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tony Mgbeahuruike is as at press time, very unconscious but later died before help could come to him, while others sustained several degrees of injuries. Meanwhile those who survived are presently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital; at Ubiaja.
The accident happened when the Cross Country Hummer bus, had a burst tyre and swerved into a nearby bush hitting a tree which fell on the bus, thus crushing the vehicle and some of its occupants.
The ill-fated drip happened during a return from Abuja where majority of the APGA State Executive accompanied Mr. Okey Eze who was variously described as a better Aspirant to purchase his governorship Nomination form.
When contacted on the phone, the media aide to Mr. Okey Eze stated that he has not been briefed over the incident, but an eyewitness account who survived the accident but not without minor injuries, Mr Solomon Eke (AKA) Mike Orihedinma said it was by the Special Grace of God that many of them survived the ghastly accident. He expressed surprised that people could come out of the vehicle which was completely mangled and written-off.
He equally thanked Mr. Okey Eze for quickly coming to the aid of the victims of the accidents by using his contacts to ensure adequate medical treatment for them.
