Methodist Church Nigeria all over the country marked her Lay Preachers’ day on Sunday, November 9, 2014.
With Lay Preachers’ manning the pulpit around the country, the day was set aside to celebrate lays in the church who have taken the pains of preaching in the church to compliment the works of the ordained ministers in Methodist Church Nigeria.
Speaking at Wesley Methodist Church 7 Arugo Street, Ikenegbu, Owerri, Imo State, Dr. Obidike Maduako described the lay preachers’ ministry as a wonderful one which has helped in the growth of Methodist Church Nigeria as well as the propagation of the gospel around the country and beyond.
He charged Christians around the world to be preachers of gospel at all times, while also urging them to make their ways straight because no one knows when the end will come.
Dr. Maduako further stressed on the topic ‘The Church, Lay Preachers and the race’ saying that even when lay preachers have a role to play in uplifting the kingdom of God, they still have their own race to run.
The service featured special song ministration by the Lay Preachers’ Choir of Wesley Methodist Church Ikenegbu which has Dr. Mrs. Blessing Ijeoma, the Provost of Alvan Ikeoku Federal College of Education [AIFCE] Owerri as member and another by Elder Cliff Mbadiugha.
In the service, more youths were also encouraged to join the ministry to ensure continuity and innovations in the ministry.
