Making their position known at the Statewide Governorship Campaign Rallies held separately at the Council Areas, they described Gov. Okorocha’s administration as ”selfish and uncoordinated”.
This was followed by the massive defection of over 5, 000 APC and APGA members in the area led by the Governor’s in-law, Chief Chinedu Okoro, a chieftain of the APC to the PDP.
Speaking amongst other leaders at the rally, the Chairman of National Population Commission and former Chairman of PDP Imo State, Chief Eze Duruiheoma SAN said, ”Gov. Okorocha is our brother but we must rise above sentiments if our state and indeed Nigeria must make progress. The truth is that Okorocha has disappointed and embarrassed us with his poor leadership and. His government has failed woefully in all the sectors of the state.
”The need for a positive change has become, more than ever before, very important and hasty in order to address the comatose state of Imo State. We have embraced Chief Emeka Ihdeioha, the PDP flagbearer because of his experience, transparency and track record of service and we are sure that he will as usual deliver the dividends of democracy to Imo people.”
Addressing the tumultuous crowd of party supporters and APC defectors, former governor of Imo State and Presidential Campaign Coordinator for Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa said Gov. Okorocha has not only strangulated the state economy, but has breached an agreement reached with him for a single term of four years and relinquish power.
He reiterated the need to support, Hon. Ihedioha as governor of Imo State, pointing out that it is the turn of Owerri Zone to produce the Governor this time since other zones have had theirs.
Other speakers who attested to the capacity and credentials of Chief Ihedioha include, Chairman, Imo PDP, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, Sen. Chris Anyanwu, Hope Uzodinma, Amb. Greg Mbadiwe, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, former Deputy Governors and numerous party leaders.
Earlier, the Campaign train paid courtesy visits to the traditional rulers of the council areas where the Governorship hopeful was blessed and prayed for.
