Followers of Christ around the world have been charged to always remember when the going was good with God and not act like the Israelites who forgot what the God has done for them to rebel against Him and Moses in the wilderness.
The charge was made at the ongoing synod of Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Owerri by the former Bishop of Evangelism and presently the Bishop of Special Duties in the Methodist Church Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Sunday Onuoha at Wesley Methodist Church Ikenegbu Owerri, Imo State where the synod is taking on Thursday March 19, 2015.
Rt. Rev. Sunday Onuoha said Christians must not forget yesterday when everything was good because of the difficulties they are facing today adding that one must always believe that, in God irrespective of the present or past conditions of his life, there is hope.
He cited the Israelites who rebelled against Moses and God asking for the things they never had in Egypt.
“Life’s journey is not easy or funny. It has ups and downs. Every child of God must go through trials because these trials are spiritual immunization for children of God.
“Show me a child who has not fallen, that child will never walk. The Bible said we must walk through the valley of the shadow of death and not beside or around it.
“Being a Christian without trials and temptations is like wanting to go to the university without JAMB. It’s like wanting to be a nurse without night duty and like wanting to be a Major General in the army without firing a riffle or fighting in battles” Onuoha Said.
He charged Christians to always accept the principles of the Kingdom of God because there can never be a life characterized with celebrations without a price that has been paid.
He added that believers must be ready to have encounters with God in this lenting period, saying that even though Jesus has paid the price for our sins, we must match that price with righteousness to enter the kingdom of God.
Rt. Rev. Sunday Onuoha hailed the past leaders of Diocese of Owerri for their great sacrifices and achievements, calling on the present leaders to follow their footsteps and achieve same.
The synod’s Eucharistic service also had Very Rev. Evans Onyemara, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, the Owerri Diocesan Bishop, Very Rev. E. O Chukwu, Very Rev. ObinnaAgbo, Very Rev. Mike Umunnakwe, host of other Methodist Ministers in the diocese alongside Dist. Nneoma Hon. Justice F.I Duruoha Igwe, the Diocesan Lay President in attendance.
The synod continues till Sunday March 22, 2015, while Prof. Maurice Iwu will be delivering a keynote address at the plenary session on Saturday March 21, 2015.
