History was last weekend made in Isiala Mbano State Constituency following the result of the supplementary elections on April 25, in which Lady Joy Mbawuike of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) beat her opponent, Mr. Chidi Collins of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who had the anointing of maverick political warlord and popular distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume.
It could be recalled that the distinguished Senator who lost the Guber primaries to Chief Emeka Ihedioha under the platform of the PDP had switched camp to APC few days to the supplementary elections in the state and wanted to have his pound of flesh on the female House of Assembly candidate who he alleged worked against him in the PDP primaries.
Senator Araraume had moved all his political campaign arsenal to work for the APC candidate a situation that aroused the wrath of some women and youths of the area to take to the street to protest against the alleged meddlesomeness of the Senator in the political arrangement of the constituency.
However, when the results were announced after last weekend’s exercise, Lady Joy Mbawuike of the PDP was able to beat her rival with a total of 16, 753 as against the 13, 192 votes scored by Chidi Collins thus making her the first woman to represent the Isiala Mbano State Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
