The leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State and the party’s Governorship candidate in the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state Rt. Hon. Chief Emeka Ihedioha has expressed dissatisfaction over the result of the just concluded election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state which the APC candidate, Owelle Rochas Okorocha was declared winner.
Addressing a press conference at Owerri on Sunday April 26, 2015 shortly after the official declaration of the result, Chief Ihedioha in his message to Ndi Imo, congratulated the people for the enormous troubles they passed through twice to vote for him and his party, but observed that it was unfortunate that their votes were not allowed to stand.
He contended that inspite of a number of reported electoral offences or malpractices, which included the arrest of over 25 INEC staffs who were alleged to have connived with his opponent to manipulate result as well as the arrest of some fake security agents in addition to the public confession of an INEC returning officer that she was forced to write false results, that the electoral body went ahead to announce the result, without taking care of these reports.
He also disclosed that there were other electoral malpractices alleged to have been committed at the government house on the eve of the election which he claimed that were captured in video and audio recording and alleged swapping of votes, yet to be proved.
However, he stated that as a democrat and a law abiding citizen he had acknowledged the result and would study the details to make his position public in future as observers anticipate he may be heading to the tribunals.
He went on to urge the Imo people to maintain peace and keep the dream of rebuilding the great state alive.
