The All progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will on June 6, 2015, hold its National Convention to elect a new set of ward, LGA, State and National Executives.
Though the venue of the National Convention is yet to be unveiled, the time table for the process of electing the new leaders has since been released.
According to the time-table, the ward congress in all the 36 states and Abuja will hold on the 16th of May (Saturday) 2015: It will be followed by the LGA congresses scheduled for Wednesday May 20, 2019: As usual, this exercise is expected to take place simultaneously in all the 774 LGAs of Nigeria.
Three days after, precisely on the 23rd of May 2015 the state congress will hold in all the 36 states and FCT to be followed closed by the zonal congresses in the six (6) geopolitical zones of the country. The National Convention has also been fixed for June 6, 2015 and it is expected that a new National Chairman will be elected to replace Sir (Chief) Victor Umeh and Alhaji Shinkafi as National Secretary whose tenure have since expired.
According to a source close to the Imo State leadership of the party, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party is presently meeting at Abuja to fine tune strategies to hold a successful National Convention of particular mention is the fact that the National Youth Leader of APGA, Comr. Ikechukwu Chukwunyere is expected to be in the state any moment from now, probably after the National Working Committee meeting to mobilize the membership to ensure the emergence of a new National Chairman and State Chairman that would be youth friendly and charismatic enough to give every member of APGA a sense of belonging.
Speaking to the Community Watchdog, Comr. Ikechukwu Chukwunyere explained that his concern is to ensure that APGA in Imo State is effectively repositioned ahead of the local government elections that will hold in Imo State very soon. He regretted that the outgoing State Executive Committee of the party in Imo State could not deliver victory to the party in the last general elections despite the fact that Imo is an APGA compliant and dominant party in the state and said this poor outing will not repeat itself, hence all hands must be on deck to make APGA the party to beat subsequently.
Meanwhile, a former media aide to Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha, one Ebere Uzoukwa of Abia State, yesterday made a strong case for the election of Chief Emeka Diwe from Ideato South as the New National Chairman of APGA, Uzoukwa reasoned that since Anambra and Abia have taken turns to produce the party boss since its registration, Imo State should be allowed to produce the next National Chairman. He was of the opinion that APGA needs a strong and credible character as Emeka Diwe, who doubles as the President of the national Association of Town-Union President General in Nigeria, to give the party the elusive purposeful leadership.
