Uchechukwu Walter Olebara aka Blaze McBede will be showing his other sides on Sunday May 17, 2015 when he and some friends will be marking the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial in Owerri.
The singer cum Disk Jockey said he will be taking advantage of this Sunday to preach the AIDS gospel to as many people as possible when thousands of people around the world will be marching for the same reason.
The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, coordinated by the Global Network of People living with HIV is one of the world’s oldest and largest grassroots mobilization campaigns for HIV awareness in the world. Started in 1983, the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial takes place every third Sunday in May and is led by a coalition of some 1,200 community organizations in 115 countries.
According to the official website of the event “The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is much more than just a memorial. The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial serves as a community mobilization campaign to raise social consciousness about HIV and AIDS. With 33 million people living with HIV today, the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial serves as an important intervention for global solidarity, breaking down barriers of stigma and discrimination, and giving hope to new generations”
Blaze McBede who is a volunteer for Cross World Care Foundation, an organization which is also working on the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, said most people do not understand when others spend time on campaigns like this, because they are yet to feel the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS.
“I’m still surprised to see some people thinking HIV/AIDS is still a myth. People are dying every day and the only way we can stop that is by doing what we have to do stop the spread.
Most of us hear it the same way we hear the gospel and we still disregard it the same way.
We need to start taking this thing serious because we are talking about lives here.
People lose their dreams when they learn they have HIV while others get suicidal. Maybe it could have been prevented if we did a little of this or that, which is why we keep hammering on unprotected sex amongst unmarried people” he said.
To mark the event, he will be touring churches with some high profiled friends in the entertainment industry, humanitarian and activism world.
