Last week, Campus Voice, I did bring it to public notice that Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri, Imo State was about to observe her annual Student Union election.
The exercise which took place at the school pavilion saw students come out en mass to support their various candidates. Before 8 AM of 28th April students have queued in line for the accreditation which lasted till about 12noon that ushered in the election proper.
Two major gladiators for the number one position were Comr. Chris Ihekonwu and Comr. Solomon Okafor from History and Political Science Department respectively. The voting lasted for three hours amidst tight security. The Police, Army and student security team were all there to maintain peace and orderliness.
Unlike INEC elections that do make the aegis of SUGICE made it that students (electorate) only have to tick into the box of his preferred candidate.
Alvan Students Press Team was also on ground to cover the event and did live broad cast in the school radio studio ably built by the outgoing President, Comr. Orient Nwadike.
The provost of the college, Dr. Mrs. Blessing Ijeoma wore the garment meant for Attahiru Jega and announced the result at the end of the voting. Olivia, Sonia, Abraham, Cashmir won the Vice President, Director of Information, Treasurer and Secretary General of the collage respectively.
The biggest part of the event that kept all in suspense was the pronouncement of Comr. Solomon Okafor as the new SUG President of Alvan Ikoku Federal College Education, having amassed a greater number of votes to defeat of his opponent Chris.
The winners were inaugurated the following day at the pavilion. This is saying CONGRATULATIONS to them and urging the new President to be a partner of the column just like his immediate predecessor.
