It is no longer news that after much ado about something from a citadel of learning located in Imo State, Orlu road to be exact have seen light at the end of the tunnel.
Information reaching the desk of Campus Voice through its correspondence in Alvan Ikoku College of Education Owerri do authoritatively reveal that President Ebele Goodluck Azikiwe Jonathan yesterday approved the proposal to make the college a Federal University.
Following a meeting that involved the President and the Federal Ministry of Education yesterday in Abuja, it was resolved to okay the long standing proposal, what this entails is that the school will no longer be answerable to University of Nigeria Nsukka hence forth, suffice it to say that Alvan Ikoku Federal College/ University of Education has got her independence.
It would be recalled that some months ago the Federal Ministry Of Education sent a delegation to the school ably led or headed by our own Mbaise born politician, who is also the Minister of Education for state in Nigeria, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, who came with her team to commission the federal projects (Edifies) erected by the ministry under the auspices of her indefatigable Provost Dr. Blessing Ijeoma.
In her words that particular day, at the school auditorium, the ever smiling minister vowed to utilize all apparatus available to her towards ensuring that the dream of the college is fulfilled. Many thought it was a political statement but lo and behold ladres and begun to bask in the euphoria of the good news.
Indeed, Alvan have fought for this for long and it couldn’t have come at any other time better than now, but the big question is, will Alvan eradicate N.C.E program in the school? Well be sure to know that Campus Voice will be the first to tell you if it happens.
Oh! They Provost will now become a Vice Chancellor but will students do their Masters Degree Programme? Certainly NO. Alvan will now have Professors as lecturers; the school gate will certainly be renovated.
Starting from 2015/2016 set, there will be no more Alvan Affiliated to University of Nssukka. What a landmark achievement. It is now time to build more lecture halls and expand the school across Nworie. STUDENTS ARE JUBILIATING.
Congratulations to Dr. Prof. Blessing Ijeoma, who is now the Provost. She will be the first Vice Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education.
