The National Coordinators of the Coalition for Democracy and Good Governance, Hon Ray Emeana and Hon Emma Dike, have called on the people of Imo State not to despair over the outcome of the governorship election in the state, predicting victory for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, saying that the court would declare him the actual winner of the governorship election in the state.
speaking to newsmen in Owerri during the week, they said that the facts of the matter before the tribunal is too glaring to be ignored, assuring that the cries of the people of the Imo State will be short llived.
They said: “We have not lost hope. The court will pronounce Emeka Ihedioha the Governor by the grace of God and by the weight of evidence before the tribunal. It is only a question of time.
“The PDP and Emeka Ihedioha Campaign Organization have looked at the result of the governorship election in the state and have noticed a lot of fraud. We want to assure the people of Imo State that their cries will be short lived. They should not bother. By God’s grace , the mandate that was diabolically stolen will be restored.
“The matters are too glaring, and the people will be surprised that one day it will be in the news that Ihedioha has been pronounced the Governor of Imo State.”
Continuing, the National Coordinators of the Coalition for Democracy and Good Governance said the Governor has not translated his promises to the people of the state to reality, pointing out that the APC must purge itself of corrupt tendencies if they want to translate their change slogan to reality.
They said that the process for the award of contracts and the way contractors in the state are paid with many leaving their jobs undone is an indication that the government is not fighting corruption. They called on the members of the new state assembly to rise to the occasion and ensure that such trends are discontinued.
they also noted that the state witnessed extra-budgetary spending in the last four years and called on the new lawmakers to ensure that such experience is stopped, even as they said that it is criminal to spend outside the budget provision.
“In governance, you don’t have to spend anything that is outside the budget. Anything spent outside the budget is fraud and impeachable. But you know that in Imo State so many things happened that were not budgeted for. So it is the duty of the House to make a paradigm shift from what the old House did. We believe that the sanctity of the hallowed chambers will being them to their senses to do the right thing.
“The State House of Assembly should carry out their oversight functions as provided by the law. They have the immunity to summon the Governor to give them the record, income and expenditure of the government…But you know that in the last four years of Governor Okorocha a certain JPROS was paid Imo money upfront and a certain House of Assembly impeached a deputy governor”, they said.
