In his charge, which was drawn from the Conference Theme, ‘Aglow with the Spirit’, he urged the youths to works towards being filled with the Holy Spirit as it is the only way they can receive the power to take their rightful place in the leadership structure of the church and the country.
He urged them to emulate the three Hebrew boys, Sheldrake Meshach and Abednego who stood their grounds and remained for God even when death was facing them.
“I am charging our youths to be leaders of today, not just of tomorrow. Young people in Abia State are taking up serious leadership positions in the church and we expect our youths here in the Diocese of Owerri to do the same.
Leaderships starts from the youth; it is when you are a good youth leader that you can conveniently lead as an adult or at old age”
He then urged youths of Orji Circuit especially to step up and do more to retain the high standard they have already set.
Also in his address to the youths ahead of the grand finale of the Youth Week on Sunday July 26, 2015, the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark charged the youths to shun social vices and work for God in any capacity they find themselves.
“It is a well-known fact, that many youths of today are involve in several vices ranging from sexual immorality, pornography, examination malpractice, cultism, negative peer pressure and all manners of addictions leaving their future uncertain.
It will take a young person who has the spirit of Christ in him and yielding to the guidance of the Holy Spirit to stand against the vices of the enemy and come out victorious” Bishop Mark wrote in his address.
The youth week which started on Monday, July 20, 2015 with Eucharistic Service around the various local churches in Nigeria will come to an end with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, July 26, 2015 around the conference area of Methodist Church Nigeria.
