The Deputy Governor who gave this challenge at the 26th Owerri Ecclesiastical Anglican Provincial Council Meeting held at the Cathedral Church of All Saints Egbu stated that the theme of the council meeting “Choosing who to serve” is a step in the right direction because according to him it will offer Christians the opportunity to address their minds on the true worship of Christ.
Reacting on the issue of workers salary, Prince Madumere decried the hardship which it must have caused most families especially those whose parents are government workers but said the situation is not peculiar to the Imo State but blamed delay to the dwindling economy.
He however stated that the state government has concluded arrangements to pay the arrears of all the civil servants while that of at the Parastatals would be paid as soon as their issues were resolved.
Speaking, the Arch Bishop of the Owerri Ecclesiastical Province Rt. Rev. Caleb Maduoma said that most Christians in the pursuit of their political ambitions put in first their selfish plans and stressed the need for the renewal of right choices by believers which involves the fear of God, loyalty to the truth, obedience from a sincere heart and renunciation of sin.
Bishop Maduoma used the opportunity to appeal to the state government to quickly address the nonpayment of workers’ salaries, stressing that anybody who works deserves to be paid at the end of the month.
In a brief word of exaltation, the Anglican Bishop of Egbu RT. Rev. Geoffrey Okoroafor said that the problems facing the church and society today is disobedience to God’s injunction and stressed the need for the church to pray with faith no matter the condition they fund themselves.
