Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has urged the youth to learn to be hard working in any vocation they found themselves, saying hard work is the key to becoming successful people.
He made this remark last weekend during the kick-off ceremony of his community’s annual football competition called Achi-Mbieri Unity Cup Competition at Achi-Mbieri Community Primary School Football field, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
Presenting an address on behalf of Imo Deputy Governor, Comrade Anyanwu kelechi, an aide to the Deputy Governor on Youth Affairs, Prince Madumere charged the youth to embrace the idea of learning skills despite their courses of study so as to equip themselves against unemployment.
He also encouraged them to take part in sporting activities, which he said brings about unity, cohesion and progress in the community and in the society at large. He averred that those who have requisite skills in sporting activities could make a career in it. He also observed that sports help in healthy living of the people especially the youth who should be seen as vibrant and energetic.
Prince Madumere therefore warned against joining the bad gangs, which may condemnably lead them into crimes and social vices that might bring them to ruin.
He recalled the importance of sports and how it has benefitted the community by creating harmonious relationship among the youth and indigenes. He reminded them the Competition started since 1997 with a view to fostering unity and to discover the latent gifts of the youth in the community. He said the objective of the unity cup is being met.
Before the kick-off, Comrade Kelechi advised the players to display the spirit of sportsmanship while the event lasts. He urged to play with purity of heart and display their skill since some scout were around.
Thanking the number two citizen of the State, Emeka Ihugba, the Sports, Achi-Mbieri Youth Association and captain of Umuokoro, Achi Mbieri thanked the Deputy Governor for his consistency in the affairs of his immediate community and Owerri zone in general. He said the competition is about two decades with Deputy Governor as having consistently sponsored the event, which holds annually. He described him as a role who has through his exemplary life style taught youth how to be great leaders.
The kick-off match between Umuokoro and Umuduru-Uzubi ended two goals to one in favour of Umuduru-Uzubi.
