The saying that everyday is for the thief but one day is for the owner of the house came to reality in Eziama Obaire, a sleeping community in Nkwerre Council Area of Imo State, Thursday last week when a member of a notorious robbery gang that specializes in the snatching of motorcycles from villagers was burnt alive by irate mob.
The unidentified hoodlum, as gathered from an eye witness had laid siege on a road in the community at about 6.00pm that fateful day and attempted to rob a woman of her motorcycle (Mate, ladies machine) and other belongings, before the operation went awry as, luck ran out on him.
An eye witness account revealed that those within the vicinity raised alarm immediately the robber dispossessed the helpless woman of her motorcycle thereby attracting the attention of vigilant members of the Imo Community Watch, ICW in the area who promptly gave him a hot chase and arrested him.
But no sooner had they succeeded in arresting him than the irate youths swarmed on them and gave the thief the beating of his life. Not satisfied with that the enraged mob reportedly poured petrol on the robber and set him ablaze; refusing all effort of the ICW to restrain them.
it was gathered that Eziama Obaire indigenes have severally fallen victim of the dare devil robbery gang which has snatched over 16 motorcycles at gun point.
The gang was actually said to have run riot in the area, thereby throwing the people into unprecedented fear and panic which made them to sleep with one eye open, every night and day.
When contacted on the ugly incident a member of the Imo Community Watch in the area confirmed the incident, but added that the matter had been reported to the Divisional Police Officer in Charge of Nkwerre Council Area, Mr. Sunday Eguaveon..
Earlier, in another of its successful operations in Owerri Nkwoji Community, Nkwerre the ICW in charge of the area had arrested one Emeka Uzoukwu, suspected to be allegedly involved in the assassination of one Mrs. Adline Uzoma.
The unfortunate incident was said to have taken place on March 1, 2016 and the chief suspect, Uzoukwu who was later arrested is now in the Police custody at the Imo Police headquarters, Owerri.
