The Imo State Commissioner of police, CP, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu has described the state as one of the crime freest states in Nigeria, even as he opined that various strategies initiated by his command have made it very impossible for criminals to operate successfully.

The CP was responding to a cover page story published by Nigeria Newspoint with the headline “Cultists takeover Imo Capital, suburbs, as they kill, maim, rob victims with ease, overwhelm security Agencies.

The police chief who spoke through the Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, A Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, said that the report was not the true representation of what the security situation in the state is.

According to the release, the CP himself has personally led operations within the state capital, where crime suspects were arrested and are being prosecuted in courts of law.

“It is noteworthy that the Commissioner of Police, CP Taiwo Lakanu has personally led several operations within Douglas Road, Mbaise Road and other crime prone areas in the state where raids of criminal hideouts were conducted and items like women handbags suspected to have been snatched, bags of Indian hemp and substances suspected to be cocaine were recovered along Douglas road as well as over fifty suspects arrested for various offences” The release stated.

The CP further explained that the state was not dominated by criminals, saying that the commitment himself and his men have displayed has made the state water tight for the men of the underworld to operate.

According to him, the overt and covert plans of the command, coupled with the phone directorate of the command which was shared to the members of the public have continually helped the police to respond immediately to emergency situations.

The release reads “I wish to state categorically that Imo State is not infested with criminals as portrayed by the writer but remains one of the safest states in the country.
