A former Special Adviser, SA, to the former governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Dr. Ijeoma Nwafor, has described herself as an unhappy member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, owing to the injustices meted out to her by the Chieftains of the now opposition party.
Barring her mind to Nigeria Newspoint in Owerri, the state capital, recently on the degrees of injustices done on her by those she described as the elite of the party from 2010 till now, Dr. Nwafor who is currently the Senior Legislative Aide, SLA, to the Senator representing Imo East in the Nigerian Senate, Samuel Anyanwu, accused her party of not being fair to her.
Dr. Nwafor who lost the PDP Federal House tickets to Rt. Hon. Bethel Amadi and Hon. Henry Nwawuba in 2010 and 2014 consecutively, revealed that her insistences to justice, integrity and truth have been her greatest undoings.
She said that her status as a married woman in Owerri Zone from another zone and not being a money bag were her greatest misfortunes as she contested for the PDP tickets the last time.
According to her, there was a conspiracy against her candidacy by the PDP elite from Owerri zone in 2010 and 2014, simply because she is a married woman in the zone from another zone of the state.
Dr. Nwafor Maintained that when those who were against her candidacy could not adduce any meaningful reasons against her personality, they conjured the obnoxious sentiment that she is a married woman to the zone from another zone and at such should not be allowed to win the party’s primary election.
The female politician highlighted that the conspiracy worsened when she hadn’t “all the money” to throw about, saying that it further dimmed her chances of clinching the ticket the two times she contested.
On why she did not exit from the party like many others did, Dr. Nwafor informed that she is a politician with ideologies and would rather stay put in the party and fight against those abnormalities.
The American trained psychologist turned politician asserted that she believes that it was better to correct the ills while in the party than jumping ship, saying that it would worsen the situation.
“I am an aggrieved member of the PDP. I keep saying it. My problem is that am a married woman in Owerri zone from another zone and that I don’t have all the money to throw about, and it is caused by the PDP elite. I am so loved by the masses and if I had picked the ticket of another political party in any of the times I contested, I would have won the general election” she said.
Dr. Nwafor alleged that women are not properly carried along in the country’s politics, explaining that the number of women in the Senate and the Federal House Of Representatives says it all.
“I am not talking about equity, but about political fairness. There can never be gender equality, but I am an advocate of political fairness. Women should be treated fairly. I don’t want to be equal with my husband, no way, he is the head of the family. What I ask of him is to be treated fairly” she entreated.
According to her, she may not contest for election again because she has realized that one must not be in a political position before she helps humanity.
Dr. Nwafor was of the opinion that the greatest challenge of the country is poverty, disclosing that she was working hard to help in defeating poverty and hunger in Nigeria.
