The official opening of Orientation Course for the 2016 Batch ‘A’ corps members posted to serve in Imo State at the NYSC orientation camp, Eziama Obaire in Nkwerre Local Government Area of the State, held Friday April 29, 2016, was successful, with 1,700 corps members sworn-in.
In his address, Governor Okorocha who was represented by the Deputy-Governor, Prince Eze Madumere assured of adequate care of the corps members deployed to serve in the State for the 2016 serve year, considering them as veritable stakeholders in the state; adding that consideration of such gesture would ginger them discharge their duties creditably throughout their serve year.
The governor further implored the corps members to be patient and calm to be able to imbibe all the lessons available in the camp, to enable them contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of the stale; charging them also to take other activities, particularly the Skills Acquisition Programme seriously, which according to him would equip them towards self-employment.
He therefore informed that it is because of the importance of corps members’ role that the Imo State government has to make all arrangement to provide a very befitting orientation camp with almost all requirements and a serene environment; adding that it will make them stay interesting, hitch free and memorable, while he urged them to be focused, committed and dedicated, to possibly use the chance to make new friends, relate freely with camp officials as well as gain a better understanding of the Imo people’s cultures and ways of life for their benefit.
In his welcome address, chairman, Imo State NYSC Governing Board and Hon. Commissioner for Information, Youth and Sports, High Chief (Engr.) Chidi Ibe conveyed his felicitations to the prospective corps members for successfully completing their courses of study from their respective Institutions of learning and urged them to begin immediately to articulate on how to contribute their own quota towards the growth of the state.
He also revealed that the Rescue Mission Policy’ initiative of the state is anchored on good governance, free education, job creation, security, tourism, development, food production, poverty eradication, environmental sustainability, as well as youth friendly than any other government and promised to tap in the youth friendly disposition of the state government to provide possible and desired leadership to the concerned corps members.
High Chief Ibe use the opportunity to thank the governor for approving the release of former Girls Model Secondary School, Eziama Obaire, which he added, was modern facilities to serve as a new camp for NYSC orientation course for corps members deployed to serve in Imo State, and described that as true demonstration of the said youth friendly posture of the state administration.
In his introductory address earlier, coordinator, Imo State NYSC, Mr. Fasanu Isaac I., on behalf of Management and Staff of the scheme; expressed profound gratitude to the state governor, Owelle Okorocha and good people of Imo State for providing a befitting orientation camp and lauded the Eziama Obaire people for their unflinching cooperation which he added made everything a reality.
To the prospective corps members, the coordinator informed that NYSC Orientation course is one of the cardinal programmes designed with main aim of inducting the new corps members it the scheme to adequately prepare them
