The Majority Leader, Imo State House of Assembly, and member representing Owerri Municipal Council Area, Hon. Lugard Osuji, has challenged members of the Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria (FOWAN), Imo State chapter to always be at the forefront of the crusade for the education of the girl-children (women) as a veritable means of nation-building.
Hon Osuji, who gave the charge during a courtesy visit in his office at the State House of Assembly building complex, Owerri, on Monday by the FOWAN executives in the state, said’ education was key to success in all endeavours, adding that, as mothers, the Moslem women were all expected to assist and make sure that the girl-child acquired education even to the tertiary level, hence he maintained that if women were educated, the nation benefits from the proceeds of women education.
Also, calling on the women to continue with their support for the APC-Rescue Mission Government by the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha in Imo State, Hon. Osuji, noted with dissatisfaction that, corruption contributed largely to the economic woes of the country, Nigeria, under the President Muhammadu Buhari, who he said, stepped into office, only to inherit the task of re-building the state of the national economy devastated by the PDP’s misrule.
While commending the state governor, Okorocha for the infrastructural development facelift given to Imo State, the state lawmaker, urged the moslem women not to relent in their support for the hospitable gover
nor of Imo State, Owelle Okorocha, President Buhari and the people of Owerri Municipal Council for their magnanimity and accommodation.
Earlier in their address during the visit, the FOWAN led by Hajia Rabbi Hassan, enumerated a number of issues impeding on the progress of the group, which include; procurement of an official bus, land for the building its secretariat and the inclusion of FOWAN, Imo Chapter for the Hajj exercise, among others, solicited government’s assistance.
The group, also, demanded for a micro-credit finance scheme via the State House of Assembly, as it submitted papers to that effect, altogether, by announcing that, the commencement of the FOWAN week in the state would be preceded by visits to the less privileged as practiced by Prophet Mohammed, Servant of the Almighty Allah.
Members of the FOWAN on the visit are; Hajia Rabbi Hassan (President), Hajia Rakiya Ahmed, Hajia Maihima Madubueze, Bukola Olantunde, Hajia Relaiya Ibrahim, Hajia Fatima Hamzah, Balikisu Zakigi, Salamatu Ibrahim, Miriam Onabaniji, and Hauwa Musa.
