Rising in support of motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Arthur Egwim, member for Ideato-North State-Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, urging the Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari, to quickly intervene in the recent massacre of over 60 people of Igbo origin in Uzouwani, Enugu State by the armed Fulani Herdsmen, the Assembly, has condemned in its entirety, the dastardly act.

While deliberating on the all-important motion as seconded by the member for Obowo State-Constituency, Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, the Assembly considered most pivotal, the sacrosanctity of human lives, insisting that on no account should government permit the killing of people by the Fulani herdsmen/gunmen, also, citizens of Nigeria.

The Assembly, further maintained that, perpetrators of the heinous crime must be brought to book, adding that, president, Buhari should take proactive steps in arresting the ugly development in order to forestall future occurrences, and avoid reprisal attack by people of Enugu State and Igbo nation at large.

However, the Speaker, Chief Acho Ihim and Hon. Ibeh particularly commiserated with the families and relatives of the victims of the herdsmen’s onslaught in Enugu, even as the Assembly leadership commended the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for his quick intervention in collaboration with the Enugu State Government in the matter, having earlier convened a meeting of Imo traditional rulers on the issue.

Other lawmakers; Hon. Ikechukwu Amuka (Ideato-South), Hon. Uche Agabige (Orsu) and Hon. Mike Iheanetu (Aboh-Mbaise) sought proactive measures in steming the tide of insurgencies in Igbo Land by the herdsmen. Hon. Amuka suggested alternative security measures by Ndiigbo in general.
