The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has advised National Youth Service Corps members to learn skills to be self-reliant.

Governor Okorocha made this call yesterday at Eziama Obire during the occasion of Official Opening ceremony of the orientation course for the members of National Youth Service Corps batch A deployed to Imo State through his deputy, Prince Eze Madumere.

He averred that every focused corps member should work towards becoming self-reliant with a view to solving to solving the issue of unemployment rather than waiting endlessly for job opportunities that may not enough for every job seeker.

Prince Madumere while delivering Governor’s address admonished Corps members to eschew crimes and other irruption practices while calling on them to embrace the policies of the present Federal government led by President Mohammadu Buhari especially fight against corruption, which he said has kept Nigeria under-developed for the past fifty years of its existence.

He emphasized the need for the corps members to mingle with the community members of their places of assignment and ensure the learn culture and traditions of the people. He also encouraged them to make impact through their community services especially at the places of their primary assignment.

He also used the opportunity to enumerate Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s effort to ensuring the youth are equipped to contribute to the national development. He mentioned the free and qualitative education policy, the ongoing empowerment programme for the youth especially in the area of agriculture and other technologically driven vocations.

Prince Madumere emphasized the import of the NYSC scheme to promote National cohesion and unity towards achieving nationhood. He averred that it was due to the belief Governor Okorocha has in the scheme that he built an ultra-modern NYSC camp with state-of-the-art facilities, which 2016 batch A are the first group to use it.

He therefore encouraged the Management of the NYSC scheme and other collaborating agencies not to relent in their goal of installing spirit of patriotism while assuring Imo State preparedness to continue to play her role towards achieving the set goal.

Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Scheme, Mr. Isaac Fasanu showered encomium on Governor Okorocha for providing a befitting Orientation camp for the NYSC, describing as the one of the best in the country with expansive hostels for male and females, functional water system for sanitation and other purposes. While appealing to Governor Okorocha to graciously make the camp permanent one, he revealed that the management of NYSC has resolved to name the Orientation Camp, “Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha NYSC Camp.”

He also used to opportunity to address the corps members on the spirit behind the rigorous training exercises with a view to preparing them for the challenges ahead.

High points of the occasion was the commissioning of the Ambulance donated by the National Directorate of NYSC and inspection of the ultra-modern camp site by the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere.
