On the occasion of this year’s children’s day celebration, the former Speaker, Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has urged Nigerian leaders and parents to always commit to the welfare and future of the Nigerian children and deal with diseases that take their lives, untimely
This is even as he tasked parents to make the education and welfare of their children their topmost priority, in other to prepare them for the challenges ahead, stating emphatically that, ‘’ Nigeria must wake up and prepare a solid future and sound legacy for our children, who are the symbol of our future.’’

In his message to Nigerian children , the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate in the rescheduled Okigwe senatorial election, admonished children to respect and honor their parents, as well as stay away from vices and negative behaviors that might destroy their future and portray them as nuisance to the society and country.

He called for concerted efforts on legislations that will help children confront the negativities of social life, prevent early and forced marriages, drug and internet addition, as well as a legislations that will provide free education, from pre-nursery to tertiary level of education for physical challenged, indigent children and orphans.

He seized the opportunity to thank the A APC Led federal and state governments for their commitment towards the well-being of the Nigerian child which they demonstrated by providing the sum of N12.6 billion, for vaccines and other programs that will aid in preventing childhood killer diseases such as polio, measles, yellow fever and others.

While wishing Nigerian children a healthy, successful, peaceful and happy children’s day celebrations, uwajumogu opined that celebrations without a comprehensive program that will address the needs and welfare of the Nigerian child, amounts to just marry-making and jamboree.

He urged stakeholders to take advantage of this year’s occasion to reflect and devise effective ways of improving the lot of the Nigerian child, stressing that the 93.1 billion naira school feeding program initiated by the current administration will go a long way in easing the suffering of parents, as well as, stimulate the enthusiasm and joy of going to school.
