As we dig deeper on what has changed into the lives of Imo State based musicians in 2012, we spoke to music producers Somik, who said that just little has changed in the attitude of the artistes, but admitted that most of them have improved in terms of sounds.

“There are a lot of improvements in the quality of our productions in terms of Sound (Beats, Vocals, Mixing and Mastering). We are really out shinning our counterparts in other states including Lagos. These days you can hardly differentiate the song of an Owerri based artiste from the song of a Lagos based superstar’s song. It shows we have really upgraded”

He however threw part of the blame for the poor growth of Imo State based artistes on the artistes saying: “artistes have not really improved in their music promotion culture. We are still far behind in the national music scene because we find it difficult to run massive promotion packages”

He then heaved the rest of the blame on Dj and radio stations based in the state saying: “Our DJs also have not helped matters too. They prefer playing and patronizing already famous and established artistes instead of our indigenous artistes.

“Our radio stations too have just done very little or nothing compared to what I expect them to do in terms of contributing their own quota towards the promotion of our indigenous artistes.

“Except for Zanders Fm that play the songs of our indigenous artistes frequently, other stations just find it difficult to do so unless the artiste is their personal person. This has frustrated the zeal of many artistes to run their radio promo in Imo State” he said.

We are still digging deep to know what changed and what didn’t change since 2012 in Imo State music industry and why most of the artistes who have obviously put in so much are yet to reap from it.

#ATripTo2012 is going to be a master piece as Chinedu Hardy Nwadike takes that tour to some of his encounters which have never been written about and some of the things no one has even had the guts to say in the industry.

It will also bring to light some songs you never knew were made in 2012 and some songs that were never released as wells those that will show you how other top artistes you know today in the state started. It will also bring back some forgotten memories of artistes who are no longer in the game and those who are struggling to catch up with the shadows of who they used to be.
