The Chairman, National Association of Auto Technicians (NATA) Imo State Council, the umbrella body of all Auto Mechanics in the country with zonal, State, LG.A, and unit councils, Comrade Kyrian Ifeanyichukwu Nnadi has expressed his association’s support for the proposed relocation of mechanics from Orji, Nekede and the Owerri Metropolis to Avu in Owerri West LG.A, stressing that the government has the right to relocate any group of people, issue or revoke certificates of occupancy if the reasons are cogent. He said this last week after their meeting with the Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha at the government house, Owerri.

According to Comrade Nnadi, “we thank the Governor for giving us land, and for also promising to allow us continuous ownership of the lands where our offices/workshops presently situate. We however, plead that he gives us more time to tidy up things, build prototypes to ensure uniformity of building patterns, parcellate the land to avoid rivalry, provide access roads, electricity, water and other necessary infrastructure. We also urge government to ensure that the land is allocated to genuine and certified mechanics and not to middle men who will rent them out to end users at outrageous amounts.

The NATA State Chairman also said that government should direct the relevant security agencies to ensure that the proposed site will be strictly used as offices/workshops and not for any reason, as residential quarters. This, he said is to avoid the infiltration of criminals and deviants who will dent the image of genuine law abiding people, thereby negating the good intention of government.

He said that all States, Zonal, LG.A and unit branches of NATA will be in Owerri, the Imo State Capital for a 2 day National Conference on the 27th and 28th of July, 2016 and solicits for the state government’s assistance to make the event successful and hitch free.
