We would want to use this medium to thank you “The amiable Governor of Imo State and Commander of free education, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha (OON)” for your great desire to transform and develop Imo State. We appreciate the enormous investment the state has made in education, road construction, hospitals and in agriculture under your careful and articulated leadership. We also realize your sincere and good intention in the plan to construct and relocate the Eke-Ukwu Owerri Market to Ohii, Owerri West L.G.A, noting that the idea is to decongest Douglas Road, School Road and Ekeonunwa Street.
If it is true; that decongestion of the roads is the major reason for relocation of Eke-Ukwu Owerri:
Your Excellency Sir; Consider this development road-map.
(I)Construct Owerri Central Motor Park: (convert old Owerri Stadium to Motor Park).
(ii)Re-Construct Naze Market, Nekede Market, Uratta Market, Orji Market, Amakohia Market, Akwakuma Market, Irete Market, Obinze Market, Ihiagwa Market and Orogwe Market to standard markets.
(Iii) Zone the markets and mark the roads for parking.
(ivTransfer all the motor parks in Owerri to the Owerri Central Motor Park.
(v)Ask all the traders trading along the roads within and outside the market (Eke-Ukwu) to go to the near-by markets for their businesses.
(vi) Inaugurate task force to strictly enforce compliance. If this developmental road-map is followed; the heart of Owerri would not only be decongested: the government can increase its internally generated revenue (IGR) from revenue accruing from the motor park, markets, parking slots for visitors and fines from defaulters.
It is quite understandable that those roads got congested as a result of the numerous parks operating around the market and the traders trading along the roads. It is obvious also that those parks operated along the roads because there is no central motor park in Owerri Metropolis (Municipal). You can agree with me that there is no major city in the world that has no well constructed motor-park, train station or railway station. Therefore, our Governor you will do well by giVing Owerri Municipal Council a well planned and constructed motor-park at the heart of Owerri. I rest my case.
