Amid lamentations and remonstrations across the length and breath of Igbo nation alleging marginalization of the people of south East by the All progressives Congress administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, National organizing secretary of the APC, Senator Osita lzunaso has pointedly blamed the South East zone for being the architect of its political misfortune.
Senator Izunaso also fire salvo at the former Governor of Anambra ate Mr. Peter Obi for abandoning the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA saying the ex-governor would have used APGA as a platform to rally Igbo together and give It voice nationally even as he argued that PDP is now a regional party. The APC chieftain who dropped the bombshell n Owerri, weekend, through his Campaign director General Hon. Charles C. Uba, in an interaction with newsmen posited that the failure of the Igbo to take advantage of the PAC sharing formula adopted before the 2015 elections to produce a senator to fill the slot of senate president ceded to it was the root cause of the seeming sidelining of the zone.
According to Chief Uba, the current crisis bedeviling the ruling party at the national level could be blamed on the south east zone which its inability to calculate very well created the opening for Bukola Saraki whom he said had no business being senate president to ascend the exalted position thereby disenfranchising the zone. This fundamental flaw he stressed meant that the zone did not have a representative at the highest echelon of the party as the current occupier of the position, Senator Ike Ekweremadu who is of the opposition PDP, cannot be part of the caucus. He said sharing of the spoil of electoral victory usually follows that pattern and that because the Igbo nation did not get its bearing right, it is bound to suffer the consequences of its ill advised political decision.
Senator Izunaso’s spokesman pointed out that apart from marginalization, the serious error of 2015 also exposed the under belly of the Igbo as the victory of President Buhari who could not muster the required 25% vote from the zone but went ahead to win showed that one can become president without the support and vote of the zone.
He advised the people of the zone to go back to the political drawing board and map out new strategies that would take them away from the old style of closed door politics which places strategic corporate interest at the backseat, if they want a change in political fortune in future.
