The president of Owerri Main Market Amalgamated Association (OMMATA) Mr. Lawrence Okwudili has pleaded with the Imo State Governor His Excellency Owelle Anayo Okorocha to rescind his planned relocation of Eke-Ukwu Market to Egbeada in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State. Mr. Okwudiri made this plea while answering questions fielded to him by some journalists who visited his office at the main market recently.
He stated clearly that government policies cannot be challenged but with good pleas the government can listen and do the needful. Mr. Okwudili posited that His Excellency Owelle Okorocha’s position is a fatherly one and we are his children. Normally when a child begs his father for something, his father will always do or give the child what he or she is begging for.
In that vein as Owelle Okorocha’s children, we are begging him to leave Eke-ukwu Owerri alone because of the huge investments we have made in the market as the relocation of the market will put us in very difficult situation. Mr. Okwudili revealed that a lot of people are carrying false allegations against him towards the planned relocation of the market but said that God Almighty knows that he is innocent of their accusations. He made it clear that he has not gotten the capacity to advise the governor in anything at all. He therefore opined that he is leaving everything to God.
Mr. Okwudili revealed that before now they have been hearing the rumour of the relocation of the market until the governor invited them for a meeting where he made it open to them. Mr. Okwudili posited that all what the traders are asking for is for His Excellency to leave the Eke-ukwu market where it is.
