39 suspected cultists were Monday, paraded by the leadership of Imo State Police Command for allegedly engaging in cult related activities in the Nekede area of Owerri, in the State Capital.
Parading the suspects before newsmen, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu informed newsmen that the suspects were nabbed for alledgely organizing an initiation ceremony.

Mr. Lakanu disclosed, “on the receipt of the information, covert operatives of the command were promptly mobilized and dispatched to the area to monitor the situation. Notable flashpoint within Nekede and its environs namely Megabite lodge Umuokoro popularly known as South Africa, Shrine tree square and Pentagon bar Umuofochawere dominated and cordoned off by ever ready operatives”.

While disclosing that the suspects have confessed belonging to the “AYE” confraternity, the Police Chief assured that investigations have begun with the view of bringing the suspects to justice.

According to Mr. Lakanu, three talking drums of different sizes, berets, sachet of salts, emblems and kegs of palm wine were recovered from the suspects.

When interviewed, the suspects denied the allegation, saying that they were celebrating their graduation from Federal Polytechnic, Nekede when the police rounded them up.
