History was made on Sunday, November 6, 2016 as Bongo Music maestro Ababanna was crowned the King of Bongo Music in 2016 in an award ceremony that was initially started by 18 contestants.

In the event which had the three finalists Ababanna, Shama Melody and King Owigiri left at the mercy of thousands of people who had visit Nze Dan Orji for the event, it turned out that the crowd preferred the performance by Ababanna to others, leaving the judges of the Bongo Music battle no choice but to crown the Awaka born singer, the King of Bongo Music for 2016.

Behind Ababanna was Akabo born singer, Shama Melody who is known for his hit track ‘Motor Mixture’, while King Owigiri who didn’t not wait to collect his Prize Cheque came third.

Imo Music Awards [Bongo Edition] was organized by Social Media Searchlight Concept, headed by MC Banana Mouth, in partnership with the office of the SA on Entertainment to Governor Rochas Okorocha, held by Hon. Chukwunonye Iruno.

The event was witnessed by His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha, represented by the Secretary to State Government, Sir George Echeh; Deputy Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo, Mr. Paddy Obinna, Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri amongst other commissioners and top government functionaries.

Others include the chairman of the occasion, Chief Nnamdi Osuagwu, CEO Father Father Holdings; top business men and stake holders in the entertainment industry.
