The State House of Assembly has observed with dismay the impassable routes of Owerri – Umuahia road resulting to events leading to natural disaster such as flood, erosion among others.
During a deliberation on a motion presented by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House and the members representing Obowo State Constituency, Barr. Kennedy Ibeh, the House noted that the problem of flooding has rendered roads leading to his constituency Obowo, Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise as well as Ihitte Uboma impassable, stressing that a journey to these constituencies which normally takes 30 minutes now takes whooping 3 hours to accomplish because of flooded and consequently dilapidated nature of the roads.
Barr. Kennedy pointed out that the situations of the roads have increased robbery and other related crimes on these roads.
The motion was seconded by the Majority Leader of the House and the member representing Ahiazu Mbaise, Ichie Ken Agbim and supported by all the members present at the plenary.
The House resolved to urge the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to direct as a matter of urgency the state ministry of Works to move in to arrest forth-with the agony of road users plying the Owerri – Umuahia road and the Ngor Okpala – Enyiogugu Mbaise bye-pass.
The House further resolved that the Owerri – Umuahia road be captured in the 2018 appropriation Bill by the federal government for total re-construction or major rehabilitation.
