The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, today, paid a condolence visit to the family of the slain fresh graduate of Imo state University, Uchenna Opara who was allegedly tragically shot dead by the traditional ruler of Umunumu-Mbieri, Mbaitoli local government of Imo State.

Prince Madumere who cut short his journey to visit the bereaved family described the incident as unfortunate and a great loss.

The number two citizen of the State stated that it is worrisome to Governor Okorocha to note that a highly respected monarch who happens to be the leader of other traditional rulers was said to be the prime suspect in the ugly act.

After conferring with the youths of the community, the Deputy Governor admonished them to remain calm and control their temperament so as not to take laws into their hands, adding that one fallen soul is too much a loss to bear already.

Assuring them of justice, he said; “I understand your pains and grief. You are all aware that I am as pained if not more infuriated by the unfortunate incident that snuffed-out a life out of a promising youngster like Uchenna. It is even more worrisome that he was never known to be a bad boy but an easy going person. Most of you who know me would understand that I will not yield for what is not right. In this vexed matter, the law must take its course. It is justice for Uchenna or nothing. This is to serve as a deterrent to others who might think they can get away with any act of lawlessness; he submitted”

Prince Madumere who chose to spent some time with each of the members of the family urged the family members to have faith and believe that God will surely intervene by bringing soothing solution their way. He however promised the family that their son’s death will never be in vein. The Deputy Governor spent time with late Uchenna’s mother, grandmother and father individually.

In response, the youth of the community led by Comrade Bethel Iwaoha thanked the Deputy Governor for showing as usual his concern and for his proactive measures to ensure that normalcy returned to the community. The youths also made strong demand for justice for one of their own; whom they said was peaceful and easy going.

In the same vein, Chief Franklin Uchenna Opara Snr, the father of the deceased thanked the Deputy Governor for finding time to visit to calm inflamed nerves following the gruesome murder of their lovely son. He however request of the Deputy Governor to ensure that justice is done and that their son never died in vein.
