The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has applauded the people of Ihioma ancient kingdom in Orlu local government of Imo State for their community development consciousness, calling on others to emulate such progressive culture.
Prince Madumere made the call, Saturday, during the commissioning of a hospital built by a group under the aegis of Ihioma United Citizens and fund raising for the completion of the pediatric section of the hospital.
Delivering his address, Prince Madumere hailed the group led by Cyril Agunna for thinking home, describing the effort of building a health care facility for Ihioma community and its immediate environs as noble and patriotic.
He opined that he was not surprised by the feat of Ihioma people who have organised themselves under various socio-cultural and economic groups, putting heads together to better the lots of their people. He added that Ihioma people are true friends who have never disappointed him in the course of his relationship with their sons.
His words; “Most of you may not know my relationship with Ihioma people and why I cherished my relationship with you all. Without sounding immodest, I have never experienced disappointment from any Ihioma sons I have come across. If you are looking for true friendship, come to Ihioma and you will never be disappointed.
As for your effort in building a hospital, I assure you that State government will partner with you in technical areas. What you have done is no mean feat. It is a patriotic effort, which must be commended and emulated by all.”
Welcoming the Deputy Governor, Chief Gerry Okolie described Madumere as a bankable personality and great friend of Ihioma. Narrating the historical landmarks of Ihioma and its positive cultures and traditions, he explained that it was a foundation laid by their forebears who collectively tasked themselves to bring solutions to the need of the people. He enumerated many projects executed by different groups at different times of their existence.
President of the group, Chief Cyril Agunna expressed happiness at the presence Prince Madumere for honoring their invitation, describing him a worthy leader who Imo people are proud of. He called on the government to partner with them so as to ensure that intensive health care is available to those at the rural areas.
The Traditional Ruler of Ihioma Ancient Kingdom, HRH, Eze C.C. Okeke commended Rescue Mission Government for its transformational stride. He however appealed for urgent intervention of the government at an erosion site in Ihioma, which he described as a serious threat to the socioeconomic and cultural activities of the people.
High point of the event was the adoption of Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere as an illustrious son of Ihioma by Chief Charles Ahinze shortly before he was conducted round the hospital for inspection.
