The Imo state government has condemned in its entirety the ugly sights and incessant dumping of refuse on the high ways with the Owerri capital city, pointing out that the menace poses health hazards and makes a mess of the giant strides of the Rescue Mission Government in the State.

The Deputy Government of the State, Prince Eze Madumere expressed his discontentment on the issue in a meeting with some traditional rulers in Owerri metropolis yesterday, 2017 at the government house, Owerri.

According to the Deputy Governor, the upsurge of refuse on the high ways is giving the State a bad name, adding that the traditional rulers should work in synergy with Transition Committee Chairmen and Imo Community Watch to put a stop the menace.

“The State government is not happy on the dump of refuse on the high ways. This causes health hazards and makes mess of all the giant strides in the State. Rochas has done well in Owerri zone and the least we can do is complement his efforts;‘’ Madumere emphasized.

He stressed that the youths must be encouraged to participate in clean – up exercise, pointing out that government is geared towards re-introducing environmental officers in the communities.

He instructed that traditional rulers of Egbeada, Ishi Ubomiri, Amawuihe in Mbaitoli LGA and Agbala in Owerri North should with urgency relocate all refuse sites on the high ways.

Prince Madumere challenged the traditional rulers as chief security officers and chairmen of Community Government Council in their areas to help the government to battle the menace.

Reacting, the traditional ruler of Egbeada, Eze Edmund Njoku asked government to introduce the recycling plant which will help evacuate and recycle used nylon bags which now is an eye sore in every roads in the state while Eze Malachy Onu of Agbala in Owerri North called for the reintroduction of sanitary inspectors.

Meanwhile the Royal fathers unanimously agreed to find a lasting solution to the filthy menace through sensitization.
