Imo State House of Assembly has cleared 28 Commissioner Nominees after Governor Okorocha opted to appoint commissioners to 28.
The ceremony which took place at the state Assembly complex, was presided by the Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Acho Ihim had the 28 nominees who were drawn from all the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
The nominees who had earlier been screened by a committee headed by Mr Ikechukwu Amuka (APC Ideato South) will await the assignment of their potfolios by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
The Speaker, Mr Acho Ihim (APC Okigwe) while announcing the confirmation of the nominees on the floor of the house, said they had been screened and found eligible.
The nominees included Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri, Dr Jones Uzoka, Mr Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro, Mr Obinna Mbata, Prof. Chizoba Emebalo, Mr Maduabuchi Ibediro and Dr. Cyril Okafor.
Others were Mr Gerald Okolie, Mrs Josephine Udoji, Lady Joy Mbawuike, Mr Ihuaku Njoku and Gertrude Olukku, among others.
Earlier when they were appointed, Vanguard reported that “some Imolites have started querying the rationale for what they called the over bloated number of State Executive Council members in this time of biting economic crunch”
One of those who spoke then was a former chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Uche Onyeagucha, who said that “the commissioner-nominees and a host of other appointees, are the campaign coordinators for the 2019 gubernatorial ambition of the Governor’s son-inlaw, Chief Uche Nwosu”. He argued that it was geared towards the governor’s alleged self-succession agenda.
